Energy wells for 30 homes in Hole municipality
GTML carried out the first part of an energy project in Hole municipality in July. Four energy wells were drilled and collectors installed as planned. The wells are drilled to a depth of 480 meters in sandstone, and a new type of collector is used to achieve a more efficient energy uptake from the wells.
The wells are placed under the planned buildings. The heating central, which will supply both heat and hot water, will be installed during the construction period in 2023.

Football clubs in Viken and Oslo - conversion from gas boiler to deep energy wells for artificial turf pitches
The six sports teams in Viken and Oslo that have taken part in the concept study have used gas to heat their artificial turf pitches. The gas-fired plants are getting old, and the sports teams have for a long time considered various renewable solutions as a replacement for the current gas boilers.
In the concept study, we conclude that the solution with 600 m deep, closed loop wells combined with a specially adapted heat pump reduces the energy consumption for heating football pitches by over 80%. The heat pump also provides a low power requirement from the power grid. Deep wells reduce the area required and the number of well meters compared to shallow wells, which makes it possible to establish a well park next to an existing track, even where the available area is relatively limited.Read more
Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani (SNSK) – renewable energy supply in Longyearbyen
In 2021 SNSK received financial support from Enova to prepare a concept study on the extraction of deep geothermal energy in Longyearbyen. The study has been prepared in collaboration with Geothermal Energy Nordic (GTML). The annual energy consumption is around 70 GWh for thermal energy and 40 GWh for electricity. Longyearbyen's energy supply is today based on fossil fuel, and the aim is to change this to renewables, e.g. geothermal energy.
The results from the study are very promising and show that it is possible to use geothermal energy for heating at competitive energy costs.Read more
Some deep energy wells applications
Oslo Airport applies direct heating to de-ice the engine test area.
The team has experience from designing and leading the construction of two 1500 meters deep energy wells. The wells and associated equipment are under a maintenance contract for control and monitoring of the system.Read more

The Response Center has an open energy well system for de-icing of their helipads. The team has experience from designing and leading the construction of the three production wells and one injector well down to 600 meter.Read more
